Odisha has a rich culture and tradition and is also known as 'the land of temples' as the state is home to several exotic temples. One of them, the Sun Temple at Konark is worldwide wonder.  The Odissi dance of Odisha originated in the Hindu temples of Odisha, one of the major ancient Indian classical dance. The foundations of Odissi are found in Natya Shastra.

Kaling is the ancient name of Prehistoric Acheulian tools dating to Lower Paleolithic era have been discovered in various places in the region, implying an early settlement by humans. Kalinga has been mentioned in ancient texts like Mahabharata, Vayu Purana and Mahagovinda Suttanta. The Sabar people of Odisha have also been mentioned in the Mahabharata. Baudhayana mentions Kalinga as not yet being influenced by Vedic traditions, implying it followed mostly tribal traditions.

Odisha has long coastline, towering mountains, serene lakes and frolicking rivers, and one of the major tourism sectors of India with various tourists' attractions, ranging from wildlife reserves, beaches, temples, monuments, the arts and festivals.
